History

 

The Secondary Schools’ Drama Association (SSDA) is a Registered Non-Profit Organization under the Ministry of The Arts and Multiculturalism.  The SSDA was founded in 1965 by Mr. James Lee Wah who served as President from its inception to 1988.  Mr. Victor Edwards served as President from 1988 to 2007. Other Presidents who served for shorter periods were Mr. Steve West, Ms. Ann Louise Tam, Mrs. Naomi Adonis-Woodsley and currently Mr. Anderson La Barrie.

 

The main aim of the SSDA is the facilitation of the Annual Drama Festival, where plays produced by secondary schools are staged at venues located throughout the country.  At the end of this Festival, an Awards Ceremony is hosted by the SSDA in January the following year.  Training in Technical and Stage Theatre for all theatre arts teachers in Trinidad and Tobago is one of the mandates of the SSDA.
